What the heck is a Stumpknocker? Stumpknockers are a Florida freshwater fish that get their name from dwelling below submerged timbers, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. They named their restaurant, Stumpknockers, because it is "small and tucked away, but well worth the trouble to find."

I completely agree!

Gator skin at least twelve feet long on the Stumpknockers' wall!

If you don't know about the history of Florida, Stumpknockers, the restaurant, is the place to go! Look up to find gator skins, mounted deer and large mouth bass.

Even their place mats are Old Florida!

You will be overwhelmed with excitement as you look around the restaurant to find original, vintage Florida decorations.

Gator nuggets
Not only are their decorations exciting, but also the Stumpknockers' menu!

You can find real Florida menu items such as gator nuggets, catfish, fried green tomatoes, frog legs, gator steak, redfish, flounder, grouper, gulf shrimp, sea scallops, and fried oysters.

We started our lunch with the gator nugget appetizer. They were large, crunchy and delicious!

Fried oysters
I ordered the fried oysters. Always a good decision when you live in Florida.

I prefer them raw, but I know most people prefer them cooked.

Blackened mahi mahi sandwich

We ordered the blackened mahi mahi sandwich, the gulf shrimp and the catfish. All portions were very large and everyone left happy!

Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, Cocoa, Florida

fresh gator
Make sure you get a picture with the gator!

Rated #5 on Trip Advisor, Lone Cabbage is a local Floridian spot that we don't usually like to share! But if Old Florida is what you are looking for, then you need to visit Lone Cabbage!

Sit on the deck for a great view!
As soon as you look at the menu you will read, "Enjoy life the 'Old Florida Way' at the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp."

Located on the St. John's River, they have been open since 1949. We arrived by boat to this fun mom and pop located in Cocoa, Florida.

Lone Cabbage Fish Camp offers airboat rides and real Old Florida food including gator tail, frog legs and catfish.

Come by boat or car to Lone Cabbage.

On Sundays they offer live music and a Fish Fry from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM!

gator tail
Here I am getting down on some Gator Tail!

We started off with the freshest gator tail we have ever had! They make amazing homemade sauces to go along with your gator. And the gator was definitely not frozen.

And of course, we ordered a few ice cold beers. They don't have beers on draft but their bottles were nice and cold. Lone Cabbage also offers a full liquor bar, to those of you that are extra thirsty.

The delicious Fish Reuben
I ordered the fish Reuben. It's like a regular Reuben but  tastier because it includes fried fish instead of corned beef. It was really delicious!

This is definitely a fun place you will need to stop by either by car or boat!

Gators are everywhere!
